Ryon Carey of Lindsborg was elected Chairman of the County party at the November 2008 re-organizational meeting. Ryon is a lifelong resident of McPherson County and a lifelong Democrat. He graduated from Bethany College with a degree in History and Political Science in 1995. After college he attended Washburn Law School, but left law school to pursue business interests. Currently he is pursuing, among other things, a free-range Heritage poultry farming operation on his farm South of Lindsborg.
Susan Buffington was born and raised in Massachusetts. In 1988 she moved to Marquette, where her great-great grandparents had settled in the 1800s. She is a lifelong Democrat, who worked on her first political campaign at age 15. She is a CPA, now working for MCDS in McPherson. She is active in Elim Lutheran Church, the Marquette Melodrama, and Marquette Citizens For Change. Susan has 3 wonderful children, who are also active Democrats, who began working for political candidates before they were teenagers.
Ellen Neufeld, secretary of the McPherson County Democratic Central Committee, is a resident of Inman, Kansas. A graduate of Bethany College, Lindsborg, Kansas and Washburn School of Law, Topeka, Kansas, she is an attorney for the Kansas Department of Social and Rehabilitation Services, South Central Region. A life-long democrat, Ellen has served as president of the Reno County Democratic Women’s Club since 2000 and was elected as an at-large delegate to the Democratic National Convention in 2004. In addition to politics she enjoys music, serving asorganist for two churches, performing as principal oboist with the Hutchinson Symphony and the Bethany College Community Orchestra and is a member of the woodwind trio Trablas.
Jayne Norlin grew up in Oklahoma and attended the University of Oklahoma, obtaining baccalaureate and graduate degrees in English. A resident of Lindsborg, Kansas for 28 years, Jayne is Associate Vice President for Development at Bethany College. She is married to David Norlin, Associate Professor of Social Work at Bethany College. They have three grown children, three beautiful grandchildren, an unruly Border Collie and a nervous cat. A lifelong Democrat with a passion for politics, Jayne’s other interests include knitting, gardening, running and reading.
